Important Update - December 17

It is with heavy hearts that we are writing the update that we were hoping we wouldn’t have to write.

As mentioned in the last post, Francis has had a difficult few weeks. He has been in and out of hospital battling a severe lung infection and attempting aggressive chemotherapy in preparation for the potential trial stem cell transplant.

However, after many conversations with doctors, it has become clear that the treatments are not resulting in the progress we’d all been wishing for. Francis has made the difficult decision to transition to palliative care, which he can receive at home. This will allow him to be with Adeline, Félix, Oscar, Zella, his mom and other family members who are on their way to Seattle.

Unfortunately, there is no way to provide any timelines - leukemia is difficult to predict, given that it's a cancer that touches every part of his body. We really have no idea how the next few days or weeks will go, but we will do our best to keep you updated. We are all hoping that they will be able to celebrate Christmas together, as well as his and Félix’s birthdays.

Thank you so much for your continued support, and if you’re able, we ask again that you please:

  1. Share memories and love with Francis on the Kudoboard.
He is reading the messages and is thankful for the joy and the memories they’ve brought. It is also his birthday on Sunday, so feel free to use that as additional fodder or motivation. As hard as it may be, this is also a wonderful place to say goodbye and to express to Francis how you will remember him to his children – particular stories or character traits of his that you will share with them so that they always grow up knowing him and knowing how many people loved him.

  2. Share the GoFundMe.
As mentioned in the initial notice, the funds will be used to pay the medical bills that have already accumulated and any remaining amount will be used for arrangements and to support Adeline and the children during this incredibly difficult period.

Your love has been felt by the family and it has meant a lot to know how many people have been rooting for them. Please know that you are making a difference during this difficult time and continue to send positive thoughts. Most importantly, remember to cherish those you love and hold them tight.
